Expectant Parents
Choosing adoption is hard—difficult, complex, terrifying, confusing, and just plain hard. But it is a choice that is selfless, mature, and incredibly brave. It is one of the greatest human acts of love and sacrifice between two people.
If you want to learn more about creating an adoption plan for your child, the team at Gaudin Law Group is here to provide an unbiased explanation of adoption laws and the adoption process. We have over 25 years of personal and professional experience in adoption.
We can introduce you to potential adoptive families and help you navigate the process of selecting the right family for your child. Our team will work with you to create a budget and discuss allowable expectant mother expenses. We also assist in developing a continuing contact agreement to support a healthy, open relationship after placement.
If you are considering creating an adoption plan, want to learn more about adoption, or simply need someone to walk with you through the process—we would love to talk with you.
Working with Gaudin Law Group as an expectant mom was an amazing experience. I went through a tremendous range of emotions, and they never made me feel like I was difficult.

I’m considering placing my child for adoption, what should I do?
First, please know that you are strong, selfless, and loving for even considering creating an adoption plan for your baby. Next, give us a call at 225.412.8048. We are birth mom advocates, here to talk with you about all of your options—without pressure or judgment.
Do I get to choose the family to place my baby with?
Yes! We have a waiting list of wonderful families who would love to meet you. If you already have a family in mind, we can work with them as well.
Can I receive help with medical and living expenses while I’m pregnant?
Absolutely. Financial help is allowed under Louisiana law, though it is regulated. The law permits assistance with pregnancy-related expenses, medical care, living costs while you're pregnant, and counseling. The specific amount and types of expenses covered vary by situation. We’ll work with you to create a budget that meets your needs and complies with legal requirements.
Do I get to name my baby?
Yes. You can absolutely choose your baby’s name, and we encourage you to do so. It's a meaningful way to honor your connection with your child. We will also make sure you receive a copy of your child’s original birth certificate, which will include both of your names.
Is there any type of agreement in writing about our open adoption?
Great question! Yes—we will put the terms of future contact in writing in an agreement called a Continuing Contact Agreement. Everyone involved will sign it and receive a copy. We’ll also remind adoptive parents of their commitments. Our team will help set up communication channels that work for everyone and support a healthy, respectful relationship among all members of the adoption triad.
Will I have my own attorney?
Yes, and it’s required by law. Every adoption must include separate legal representation: one attorney for the adoptive parents and one for the birth parents. Your attorney will meet with you before you sign anything and will be available throughout the process to answer questions and offer support and guidance.
